its all about my Batak (part3)

my dear friend,

For me to know and taste something unsual in our life is really nice especially if that foods…I love to taste any kind of foods from any ethnics in my country. Last Thursday 16 October 2008, I went to had lunch with a good friend from a news paper, a Batak man (Kris Kaban)….we eat in a quite popular Batak restaurant which located in East Jakarta (Jl. Pramuka Raya)….there you can find 3 restaurants in the same street…This Batak restaurant, called with LAPO…

Mostly the foods are using pork…the pork soup is delicious…and also the pork BBQ, crispy….the most popular traditional food is SANGSANG, its also pork with species (which I dont know yet because the color is dark brown)…..there is also vegetables, Singkong (cassava) with coconut sauce…and the quite nice too is Ikan Mas (fish) with species but not hot….

For closing meal (dessert), there is Lepet (sweet with java sugar) and also laughing bread (roti ketawa)…..and can also drink with Markisa juice/syrop….the special fruit from North Sumatera.

When leaved the table and restaurant…I saw some magazines special for Batak community…the name of magazine all with Batak language…One special drink I miss was the Tuak drink….I am afraid become drunk..he he he….Horasbah !!

Looking good Janine. It’s a long time ago that I was in the northern part of Sumatra and I can’t remember eating this king of food, except for the ikan mas or goldfish.

Does your camera have “macro” Janine? If you make a close up and use macro, there will be more details in the pictures.Wish you a great weekend.

Just got back home.. I was 12 h outside home- had fun with friends. Just needed a break from household n stuffs at least once in a month you know. Im doing excellent, thx! Be ready now with my ‘bombardir’ commnets hehe

So, it wasnt with kacang ijo. My mom does put some kacang ijo n coconut milk, n it taste excellent. Sometime she puts one leg of miss Peggy inside- n my moslem relatives put cow’s leg. I guess its Karonese speciality though.. More spicy but stil tastes creamy too.

My skin? Well, indonesians who live in Europe said that my skin much fairer thant theirs. Just check my Italian albums with thsoe 2 Italian beauties…🙂
My face? Hmm… Then you are the only one who said I got a batak face. I consider that I look quite ‘universal’, I eman I have an indonesian face, but not necesary a batak one. Some of them who met me in Europe sometime mix up with south american or a latina though…I happened to had some Peruans at the Uni n they look quite similiar with us… Not all of them, but many.

at that moment only eat pork (B2 ja), but I used to eat that before also in lapo, menadonese restaurant who always sell this B1 is in Cililitan I think not far from lapo….ooooooooh ja, I remember that halal lapo I think in Cililtan because one time, I asked my batak friend from Suara Pembaruan news paper and he said it was warung makan for the muslim batak, but I will check again…The word B1 or B2 only familiar in batak peoples…because we menadonese, not know what B1 or B2….ja may be in menadonese there is more animal we eat, like mouse, bat bird….ha ha ha…like animal instinct dong….

coogeesika wrote on Oct 18

Well, as far as I know, you dont cut this Savage Leaves to make this dish. You have to ‘mold’ it. Tumbuk bhs Inggrisnya apa seh?😀

Yes I just heard about that…also before it become an issue in the ramadhan month, I read in news paper that some middle east countries not as strick as our country…there is a story, when there is a conference in Dubai or Turkey (I forgot) in the fasting month, in between the conference participants still able to have coffee break or lunch…and what happened with the indonesian officials (the ministers which one also not muslim), she did not eat too….and the arab participants feel strange, they said why you should be like that, here still serve meals as usual….oh ja Cairo and Turkey also very open….well, we still minority Ika…so its difficult to change the paradigm of most peoples here….just lucky not like malaysia more strick…ooooooh if practise in europe, i think the world become crazy…or may be that the signed of tanda-tanda jaman…means end of the world is near…..so close to Him now…ha ha ha….have a bless Sunday Ika…

yes…all restos of batak are next to Lapo….oh ja, always full the car park in front this restaurants…at that time, almost no seat is empty….I think in Jakarta only this restaurant which always full..so this is the most popular…and the price still reasonable…for two person I eat before, only 100 thousand rupiah…worthed toch…menadonese restaurant now become expensive…
